Job description
We are opening a position for a Database Reliability Engineer to strengthen a digital operations team based in Geneva. The role serves as the main technical reference point for database topics across a complex application landscape, working closely with cloud infrastructure teams to ensure stability and performance.
Responsibilities
Serve as the main point of contact for database technologies within the application ecosystem, working closely with infrastructure, cloud, and automation teams.
Manage and support the operational lifecycle of databases, including patching, upgrades, configuration reviews, backup validation, capacity management, and decommissioning activities.
Improve database performance and resilience by collaborating with developers and solution architects on query optimization, indexing strategies, and data access patterns.
Maintain and enhance a broad database environment, including PostgreSQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, MongoDB, CouchDB, Redis, and Kafka.
Investigate incidents, perform root cause analyses, and resolve performance or availability issues related to database services.
Contribute to infrastructure standards, database blueprints, operational procedures, upgrade plans, and technical documentation.
Develop and implement automation for recurring operational tasks such as health checks, monitoring validation, reporting, and backup verification.
Strengthen security and compliance by supporting access reviews, vulnerability remediation, audit requirements, data protection measures, encryption, and retention policies.
Job requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
Minimum 3 years of experience in a technical leadership or lead engineering role.
At least 2 years of hands-on experience managing PostgreSQL, MariaDB, and/or SQL Server in production environments.
Minimum 1 year of experience with infrastructure automation and operational tooling.
At least 1 year of experience in software engineering using an object-oriented programming language.
Strong knowledge of database administration, monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
Familiarity with cloud, virtualization, containerized environments, and database operational best practices.
Professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken; French is considered an advantage.
