Job description

We are opening a Database Reliability Engineer position to strengthen a team responsible for the reliability and operational management of application environments. The successful candidate will act as the main technical point of contact for database-related matters, working closely with hybrid cloud infrastructure, automation, development and architecture teams. The role focuses on ensuring database availability, security, performance and continuous improvement.

Job Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary technical reference for databases across the application landscape, coordinating activities with infrastructure and automation teams.

  • Maintain and optimize the stability, performance and operational reliability of database technologies, including PostgreSQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, MongoDB, CouchDB, Redis and Kafka.

  • Investigate database-related incidents, identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive measures.

  • Collaborate with developers, solution architects and technical teams to improve query execution, indexing strategies, data access patterns and database resilience.

  • Manage database lifecycle activities, including patching, upgrades, migrations, backup and recovery validation, capacity planning and decommissioning.

  • Automate recurring operational tasks, such as health checks, configuration validation, backup verification, monitoring controls and operational reporting.

  • Enhance database observability through monitoring solutions, alerting mechanisms and dashboards, while contributing to security hardening, vulnerability remediation, access reviews and compliance requirements.

  • Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures and best practices, while supporting data protection measures such as encryption, pseudonymization, anonymization, retention management and controlled deletion.

Job requirements

  • At least three years of experience in a technical leadership or team leadership role.

  • A minimum of two years of experience operating PostgreSQL, MariaDB or SQL Server databases, ideally in large-scale production environments.

  • At least one year of experience in infrastructure automation and operational process improvement.

  • A minimum of one year of professional software engineering experience using an object-oriented programming language.

  • Strong understanding of database administration, maintenance, monitoring and performance optimization.

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues, analyze database performance and implement sustainable improvements.

  • Knowledge of database security, access management, backup and recovery processes, and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work autonomously and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
